About
In the late
1970's drought and warfare forced the Mursi to migrate in search
of ba
lalini, cool
ground. We work to bring this 'cool ground'
to
the ethnic groups of the lower Omo, Ethiopia.
The
Mursi Community Conservancy
The Mursi have declared the
establishment of a community conservancy in the lower Omo,
Ethiopia.
The Mursi have selected game guards from the Mursi community to patrol
their
territory.
The guards duties are to count animal numbers, reduce hunting by
their community
and other tribes, and to check in on the welfare of Mursi villages and
report
back. Since the beginning of the conservancy in 2008, the population of
wildlife has grown dramatically. It is now to the point that
adventurous tourists
can go on game walks with the Mursi and be sure to see buffalo, zebra,
and
hartebeests. Giraffe, waterbuck, lesser kudu, warthog, lions and hyena
are also found in the area. All revenue goes to the Mursi
community. Brief of
